Jewellery Care

Last updated: 2 July 2026

Gabriella Luchini Jewellery pieces are made to be worn, loved and cared for over time. Each piece is made by hand using precious metals and natural gemstones, and should be treated with care to preserve its beauty, structure and longevity.

Jewellery is delicate and should be worn mindfully.

To help protect your piece, avoid wearing your jewellery while:

  • swimming;
  • showering;
  • exercising;
  • sleeping;
  • cleaning;
  • gardening;
  • lifting heavy objects;
  • applying perfume, lotion, sunscreen, oils or hair products;
  • using chemicals or cleaning products.

Chlorine, salt water, chemicals, cosmetics and contact impact can damage metals, gemstones, settings and finishes over time.

Gabriella Luchini Jewellery works with natural gemstones. Each stone has its own character, structure and level of durability.

Some gemstones are more delicate than others and may be sensitive to heat, water, chemicals, pressure or sudden impact. This includes stones such as opal, pearl, emerald, turquoise, moonstone and other included or softer gemstones.

Even durable stones can chip, crack or loosen if knocked against hard surfaces. Please avoid wearing gemstone jewellery during activities where it may be exposed to impact or pressure.

For most pieces, gently clean with a soft, lint-free cloth after wear to remove oils and residue.

If your piece needs a deeper clean, use lukewarm water, a small amount of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush. Rinse gently and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Do not use harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive cloths, toothpaste, bleach or household cleaning products.

Avoid ultrasonic cleaners unless you have been advised that they are safe for your specific piece. Ultrasonic cleaning is not suitable for all gemstones or settings and may damage delicate stones.

Sterling silver naturally oxidises over time, especially when exposed to moisture, perfumes, lotions, chemicals and air.

To help slow oxidisation, store silver jewellery in a dry place when not being worn. A polishing cloth can be used gently on plain polished silver surfaces.

Avoid using polishing cloths on gemstones, purposely oxidised finishes, textured details or delicate areas unless advised.

Gold is durable, but it is not indestructible. Gold can still scratch, bend or wear over time, particularly in rings and pieces worn every day.

Avoid wearing gold jewellery during heavy work, exercise or activities that may place pressure on the piece.

Store jewellery separately in its box, pouch or a soft-lined jewellery case when not being worn.

Avoid storing multiple pieces together, as chains can tangle and gemstones or metal surfaces may scratch each other.

Keep jewellery away from moisture, direct sunlight, heat and humid environments such as bathrooms.

Rings experience more daily wear than most other jewellery. To help protect your ring, remove it before washing dishes, cleaning, exercising, swimming, sleeping or doing any activity where it may be knocked, bent or exposed to chemicals.

If you notice a stone moving, claws catching, or the ring feeling misshapen, stop wearing it and contact Gabriella Luchini Jewellery for assessment.

Earrings and pendants should be handled gently, particularly pieces with fine chains, articulated elements, claws or delicate gemstones.

Avoid pulling, twisting or placing pressure on fine components.

Store chains fastened to help prevent tangling.

We recommend having frequently worn pieces checked periodically, especially rings and gemstone settings.

Settings, claws and chains can loosen or wear over time through normal use. Regular maintenance can help prevent stone loss or further damage.
